Waddington Building, University of Edinburgh

A bespoke new home for the Centre for Systems Biology on the University of Edinburgh’s King’s Buildings campus, providing laboratory, office and ancillary spaces.

The building benefits from an abundance of natural light through floor to ceiling windows which give pleasant views onto attractive landscaped gardens.

The key moves internally revolve around the strategically positioned break out spaces to connect the different research facilities occupying the building. There is change of pace afforded through break out hubs from the ordered hierarchy of the lab / research spaces to the more relaxed, fun and informal break out spaces. This fostered the vision and the objectives of the client, enabling the cross-pollination of ideas, bringing huge benefits to the work carried out within the facility.
