Concert Hall in Stavanger, Norway. The gross area is 16,500m2, containing a philharmonic concert hall and a multi-purpose hall, and planned completion is in 2012.
The concept for the concert hall is defined by a new connection between the Bjergsted Park and the city centre through the extension of its 'Blue promenade'. By raising the landscape on both sides of this connecting route, space is created underneath for the concert hall’s programme. The resulting dramatic roofscape serves as a unifying element that also functions as an outdoor amphitheatre facing the sea. The combination of this specific roofscape and its circular footprint make the Konserthus a powerful icon on the Stavanger coastline.
