Saltcoats Housing
The winning design in a national competition for a landmark housing development in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire.
The concept, inspired by the local landscape and seascape, was described by the judges as "very striking with strong architectural flair and iidentity."
The development was designed to meet the BREEAM Ecohomes Very Good standard. This standard seeks to minimise energy consumption and reduce waste in construction, increase the usage of materials from renewable sources, use pre-fabrication to reduce on-site waste, specify materials with a high recycled or re-used content, and to source materials locally to reduce transport emissions.
