South Lanarkshire Schools Success for Holmes

Following on from the success of Phase 1 of the £400 million South Lanarkshire Council Primary School Modernisation Programme, architectural practice Holmes, working in partnership with Bovis Lend Lease (Scotland) Ltd., has been appointed as one of three Phase 2 Framework Contractors to design and deliver 22 schools, potentially rising to 32, over a four-year period.

Holmes partner, Callum Houston said "Holmes looks forward to building on well-established relationships with South Lanarkshire Council Education and Housing & Technical Services departments. The practice will continue to deliver high quality best value design solutions that meet the aspirational and educational requirements of schools in the 21st Century".

The first project in Phase 2 is a new-build 6000m2 community building in Carluke, integrating St. Athanasius Primary School with the large local community and social work facilities and public library under one roof. Work on the site will commence in October 2007.

In tandem with the new Phase 2 works, Holmes continues to work on 5 out of the original 10 new-build primary schools as part of Phase 1 of the Modernisation Programme, with 4 due for completion in 2007 and the final one, Blacklaw Primary, in spring 2008.
