MAJOR MILESTONE FOR MARISCHAL COLLEGE REDEVELOPMENT

2 April 2009

The restoration and redevelopment of Aberdeen’s landmark Marischal College by Holmes has reached a major milestone with the granting of both planning permission and listed building consent. The building is being transformed into Aberdeen City Council’s new corporate headquarters.

Key to the design of the redevelopment is the infill of the existing entrance pend to form a new entrance lobby and new rooftop extensions. Both these critical design elements were agreed with Aberdeen City Council Planning and Historic Scotland during detailed and lengthy negotiations.

The new headquarters will provide over 14,000 sqm of net office space for the Council and incorporate innovative new ways of working in an open-plan environment. The interior fit-out of the building inventively deals with the interaction between the new floor levels and the retained facade creating an exciting and dynamic environment incorporating touch-down spaces, meeting pods, cafe/break pods and business hubs.
