Holmes completes 'The Cargill Centre', Kilmacolm

14 February 2011

Holmes Partnership has recently completed The Cargill Centre, a competition-winning design for a new community centre, library and commercial unit in Kilmacolm, Inverclyde.

Existing dilapidated stone buildings at the centre of the village have been transformed into bright, modern, inclusive facilities for community use, following extensive repair and refurbishment of the listed accommodation. The village centre itself has been opened up, improving public access to and from the buildings and the surrounding shopping district and now provides a new village square for outdoor community use.

Internally, the existing buildings are unrecognisable from their former use. Space has been intelligently created within the existing footprints to allow flexible community use, including a cafe, meeting rooms, library and commercial premises.'
